Services

So Cal Ship Services (Ship Services) is a diversified marine service company, providing vessel and offshore oil platform support. This includes transportation, land based support and logistics, labor crews and marine spill response.

Ship Services provides 24 hour onsite Dispatch at our Los Angeles/Long Beach Terminal Island Facility to meet our Customer’s needs, 24 hour a day, 7 days a week. We can respond to our Customers needs with our experienced on-call and scheduled crews, 365 days a year. We never close.

Ship Services has the unique opportunity to provide our Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor Customers with a USCG secured facility (our Terminal Island Facility). Our employee awareness of security provides all of our Customers with assurance that we meet of exceed their security requirements for persons and cargo.

We operate oil tanker vessel support from Terminal Island Facility. We operate offshore oil platform support from Los Angeles Harbor, Seal Beach Pier, Port Hueneme Harbor and Santa Barbara Harbor.

Safety is our primary objective with any operations. We are committed to the safety of all persons, customers and employees alike. Operations are conducted in strict compliance with federal, state and municipal regulations.

Launch Services

Ship Services provides water transportation of persons and cargo to vessels in Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors and their outside anchorages; to El Segundo anchorages; and southern California offshore locations, including PAL (Pacific Area Lightering) and WCL (West Coast Lightering) areas.

Cargo and returns from vessels are handled at our Terminal Island Facility (see Material Handling). Launches 35 feet to 65 feet embark and disembark passengers at our Terminal Island Facility, Long Beach Shoreline Village, Long Beach Berth 202, and Los Angeles Berth 84. Crewboats 85 feet to 100 feet and Offshore Supply Boats embark and disembark passengers at our Terminal Island Facility. Shoreline Village is the preferred location for Crew Runs because of access to public transportation and access to downtown Long Beach restaurants and shops.

Launch Runs are charged from portal to portal. Launches 35 feet to 65 feet have a one hour minimum charge. Crewboats 85 feet to 100 feet have a two hour minimum charge. 100 foot Offshore Supply Boats have a four hour minimum charge.

Day Rates are available and are quoted for each specific job scope. Day Rates are based on the duration of the job, daily work hours, posted rates, additional crewing requirements, accommodation requirements, etc. Fuel and lubes may be additional.

Time Charters

Ship Services provide vessels for Time Charter. Time Charters are contractual agreements for Ship Services to provide a vessel and crew to fulfill a customers specific job requirement or can be written as an open agreement for possible multiple jobs.

Charters include agreements to provide long term marine transportation to near shore and offshore oil platforms as well as special projects. Ship Services has participated in special projects for ship to ship lightering operations, sonar surveys, sonar research, diving operations, light towing, range clearance, salvage operations, as well as television, commercial and movie productions. We have contracted with private companies and military contractors.

Charter Rates are determined for each specific job scope. Rates are based on the duration of the job, daily work hours, posted rates, additional crewing requirements, accommodation requirements, provision requirements, etc.

Material Handling Services

Ship Services provide land base logistical support at our Terminal Island Facility. We have two cranes and four forklifts for transferring loads. Our 350 feet of dock space facilitates loading and offloading of our vessels or other supply vessels. We have shipping and receiving staff for the tracking of all Customer freight moving through our facility. We are committed to the care of all items and materials handled for our Customers.

Small forklift capacities range from 4,000 pounds to 14,000 pounds. Our large forklift capacity is 30,000 pounds. Crane capacities range from 20,000 pounds to 30,000 pounds. Crane operators are CCO certified.

Small forklift charges are half hour minimum. Large forklift and crane charges are one hour minimum. Charges include equipment operators. Riggers may be required for larger items and an additional rigger labor charge will apply. A handling charge will apply for each item received that is less than 50 pounds. A forklift charge will apply for items weighing more than 50 pounds.

If prior arrangements are not made, yard storage charges may apply if received items are excessively large, require special handling, or if the item is not scheduled for delivery within 30 days.

Truck services are provided for delivery and pick up in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. Loads are limited to vehicle capacities, half-ton pickup trucks and 14 foot stake bed trucks. Riggers are required for transport of pallets and may be required for handling items weighing greater than 50 pounds unless a forklift is available at the destination.

Labor Services

Ship Services provides laborer for Strike Downs (Stores Gangs), Line Handling, dock cleaning and other services that may be requested. Strike down and off site crane operations may provide gear, including nets, slings, pallet jacks, pallet bars, hand trucks, etc. Meals may be assessed if the job is known to exceed six hours. Two meal periods may be assessed if the job is known to exceed twelve hours.

Laborers are charged on an hourly basis, except for Line Handlers. Line Handling is charged at a flat rate. Call Dispatch at 310-519-8411 or email at dispatchers@ship-services.com for posted rates.

A straight Hourly Rate applies to the first eight (8) hours per person except Holidays. Any time over this first eight (8) hours will be charged at an Overtime rate. Holiday rates apply to any time worked on an observed Holiday or work started on an observed Holiday and continued into the next day. Holiday rates apply to the following: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr., President’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Rates are from portal to portal, covering rest breaks and meal times.

Line Handing charges are based on a 4 hour minimum. If a delay occurs and Line Handlers are already on site, and the job exceeds 4 hours due to the delay, additional charges will apply. At least a 4 hour notice is required for all Line Handing jobs. Oil terminal Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) will include Nomex or similar type fire retardant coveralls and H2S monitors in addition to standard PPE (life vests, steel toe shoes, safety glasses and hard hats).

Fender Services

Ship Services can provide solid fenders for in harbor use, dock, barge to ship and ship to ship fendering. Fenders are approximately ten feet by twenty feet. They are rented on a 24 hour daily rate. Delivery and pick up costs are not included. Launch charges will apply for delivery and pick up, approximately 4 to 5 hours total for most Los Angeles and Long Beach harbor locations.

Trash Removal & Disposal

Ship Services provides trash, foreign garbage and oil waste removal by launch and trash and foreign garbage removal by truck. Foreign garbage is all food waste, associated food packing material, including plastic food wrappers, beverage cans and containers (i.e., any item contaminated by food). Foreign garbage is regulated by Customs Border Protections (CBP). Trash includes cardboard, packing material, ash and general refuse that is generated by normal ship operations. It does not include dunnage, lashing or other items generated in the course of ship’s cargo. Oil waste includes oily rags, wipers, drained filters and absorbents.

All trash, garbage and waste are subject to prior approval and may require prior inspection and profiling before acceptance and removal. Other types of trash that require prior approval include, but may not be limited to, oil waste, oil water (bilge water), oily liquid (slops), oil sludge (oily solids), batteries, non-regulated medicine, fluorescent light bulbs, aerosol cans, dunnage or scrap.

Unacceptable types of trash are pyrotechnic devices, regulated medicine, explosive materials or radioactive materials.

Trash, garbage and oil waste shall be double bagged and shall not weigh more than 40 pounds each. Any substantial quantity of oil waste (more than three bags) should be in drums. Drums need to be DOT approved with a secured closed open-top. Drums are available upon request.

Prior notice is required to ensure CBP notification and to ensure an appropriate required spill kit is onboard a truck or launch for transportation of regulated trash.

Trash disposal cost is based on a per bag charge. Foreign garbage disposal cost is based on a per pound charge with a two hundred pound minimum. Oil waste disposal cost is based on a per drum charge. Transportation charges apply only if the trash removal is not conducted in conjunction with another service. Trash technicians are required for post receipt inspection, preparation and handling of trash before disposal.

Containment Boom Services

Ship Services provides preventative oil spill containment boom services for Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors. This includes deployed booming at berth or at anchor, standby booming at berth or at anchor, and AMPD Coverage. AMPD (Amount Most Probably Discharged) coverage is 30 minute response with deployment of 600 feet of oil containment boom.

Deployed booming at berth and AMPD Coverage are charged at a flat rate. Deployed booming at anchor and standby booming at anchor or berth is charged at an hourly rate. Call Dispatch at 310-519-8411 or email at dispatchers@ship-services.com for current rates.

Booming at berth includes vessel and crews to deliver and pickup containment boom, and includes the boom and anchors. Boom vessels and crews do not standby. If vessels and crews are requested to standby with deployed boom, Deployed Booming at Anchor Rates will apply.

Booming at anchor includes vessel, crews and containment boom. Vessel and crews standby. Charges include transportation from portal to portal, boom deployment, boom retrieval and boom stowage upon return.

Standby booming includes vessel, crew and onboard containment boom. Charges include transportation from portal to portal, vessel loading and offloading of 600 feet of containment boom. Boom is not deployed.

If an oil spill occurs during containment boom, Oil Spill Rates will apply when recognition or notification of a spill occurs.
